Marysville Anglican Church

Most buildings in Marysville were destroyed by the 2009 Victorian Black Saturday bushfires. Format Architects have been invited to design a new Anglican Church for the township and we are delighted to be part of the effort of rebuilding this community.

Our primary goal was to design a building that address its site in a prominent, elevated position at the primary entry to the town and on axis with the main street. We also sought to facilitate connection and engagement by designing flexible spaces that can be used by the wider community for evolving needs and interests. The design is a community spiritual long house incorporating a series of continuous portal frames which are open and welcoming. The open frame forges a meaningful connection between spaces and the natural world in order to uplift and sustain people.
